Carers SA
Carers SA
Carers SA supports people who provide unpaid care to family or friends living with disability, mental illness, chronic or terminal illness, dementia, frailty due to age, or substance dependence. Carers can be of any age and from any background. As the lead provider of the federally funded Carer Gateway in South Australia, Carers SA offers free services including counselling, emergency respite, peer support, coaching, and young carer programs. Carers SA also delivers state-funded supports like Carer Breaks and one-on-one assistance. With a strong advocacy role, Carers SA ensures Carers’ voices are heard and their needs recognised across the community.
People become Carers in many different ways. Some gradually take on the role by helping someone more and more over time, while for others, it begins suddenly due to an accident or illness. Carers can be of any age and come from all walks of life — parents, grandparents, partners, siblings, children, friends, and neighbours may all find themselves in a caring role at some point.
